IS THE POPE IN THE BIBLE?

For any question about where is XYZ found in the Bible as "soul proof" of right or wrong, I ask those who believe in "Sola Scriptura" -or- "Bible Alone" - where does it say in the Bible that everything that Christ wants us to do is in the Bible?

For that answer see my post on Sola Scriptura.   The answer is that nowhere in the Bible does it tell us that we are held to the Bible Alone as proof, in fact the Bible tells us that Christ taught more than what can be held by all books in the world, and it tells us to hold fast to word and scripture (i.e. passed down word and written down word)...

Now that's out of the way, I'll say, "yes" the Pope is in the Bible and it is a word handed down in more full deep contacts.

We all can agree that Christ had apostles.    What many Protestants glance over is the Authority that Christ gave the Protestants.

John 20:
21 He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent me, I also send you.  22 When he had said this, he breathed on them; and he said to them: Receive ye the Holy Ghost.  23 Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.

Ephesians 2:
20 Built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,

2 Corinthians 13:
10  For this reason I write these things while I am away from you, that when I come I may not have to be severe in my use of the authority that the Lord has given me for building up and not for tearing down.

Luke 10:
16 “The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.”

Now let's get to the Pope:

Matthew 16:
15 Jesus saith to them: But whom do you say that I am?
16 Simon Peter answered and said: Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answering, said to him: Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jona: because flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven.
18 And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven.
.

Now to understand this more fully we have to look to Isaiah 22:

21 And I will clothe him with thy robe, and will strengthen him with thy girdle, and will give thy power into his hand: and he shall be as a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Juda.

22 And I will lay the key of the house of David upon his shoulder: and he shall open, and none shall shut: and he shall shut, and none shall open.

23 And I will fasten him as a peg in a sure place, and he shall be for a throne of glory to the house of his father.

In Isaiah 22 King Hezekiah of Judah gave the powers of vicar (one who is in charge of the house in the King's place) to Elliacim and while the King was away.  Eliacim was appointed master of the palace, over all the other servants.

How clear of a parallel is that now?   Peter, the Rock is the 1st Pope and Christ gave him powers of vicar while he is away.  He alone has the Keys to the Kingdom, one of the 12 apostles, the first Bishops of the Church.   Through Apostolic succession, the Keys of Christ were handed down in the Catholic (Universal) Church to this day.

Let's next visit confession and the powers noted above Christ gave to all of his apostles.
