Modernism - the war against Truth

 Modernism is a distortion of reality, standing opposed to Modernism is Orthodoxy.

Modernism is the continued change of what is currently accepted. It is promoted as discovery and improvement, but that is its big flaw. It cannot stop assaulting what currently exists and therefore on,y ends when all is destroyed.  It is a continuous rebellion; not so coincidently the cause of the fall of Lucifer and 1/3 of the angels. A form of it is called Communism as that is a continual effort to overthrow the ruling class by the underclass, but that creates a new ruling class to be overthrown as the large underclass always remains, “For the poor you have always with you…” (Matthew 26:11).  

Orthodoxy, as with all good words, can be defined by it’s entomology or origins.
“Ortho” = “true” or “straight”. We use that prefix when describing shapes in geometry. “Orthocenter” is the true center and “Orthogonal” for lines that are truly aligned. We use it in medicine where “Orthopedic”, Orthodontics”, and “Orthotic” as corrective (making true) professions or devices
“Dox” or “doxy” means opinion, or understanding.
Orthodoxy is true understanding, or more simply the truth.

“What is Truth” Pilate asks Christ (John 18:37).
To a Christian “Truth” means “God” or “I Am” or the word and law of God. It can be found in 2Samuel 7:28, John 14:6 and dozens of other passages. Orthodoxy in a Christain (and Judaic) religion is knowing God, for knowing God is knowing truth.

I note that in other religions their god is not equal to truth. Buddhist is a nihilist faith (god cannot be known). Islam disguises itself as Abrahamic foundation but it’s a deception and thereby an untruth - its teachings conflict against another and it actively promotes deception and god can deceive. Hinduism, like many ancient religions having multiple gods, is a confusion of truth and this manifests in that each god is in battle or contest of another.

Modernism tells us truth is relative. We hear “your truth, his or her truth”. It’s only a perspective. Therefore truth cannot and will never be found. In a sense there is no real truth. It becomes clear that modernism will be a return to paganism.

Our Lord stands in stark contrast with his statement in John 18:37 “…Everyone that is of the truth, hearth my voice”.

To know the Truth we must forge ourselves in compliance with our Lord’s voice. We must yield our will to our Lord. This comes with an act of faith. This “free will” act puts us in to the furnace of our Lord, however it takes our actions to stay there.
(This is where some Christain salvation theology departs from others - what I show below is my clumsy version of Catholic belief which aligns with orthodox - which is NOT a “works based salvation” as is commonly accused, as “justification by works” is condemned in the Council of Trent [session 6, cannon 1] which also condemns “faith alone” [session 6, cannon 9]) 

We are not saved at all buy our actions, but walking out of Gods forging fire (Peter 1:7-17) is an action that takes us away from our Lord. For this we must recognize the eternal Truth and actively deny the falsehood (we cannot accept both and expect to be saved).

Rephrasing simply: We are redeemed by our Lord through Faith but our actions can take us away from Him, essentially revealing we may not have had the Faith from the start (or we lost it in rebellion of our Lord’s teachings). The good news is that confession is a sacrament that returns us to His hand, we only need to ask humbly and truly for his forgiveness.

It is true no one can snatch us out of our Lord’s hand (John 10:28) but being there does not take away our free will. Our Lord wants us to choose him freely. We must resist temptation that will lead us to walk off his palm.

For it we are “once saved, always saved” we would not need to pray the Our Father.
